SWIM BABY SWIM
Even a baby can learn swimming, before it stands up, because
no balancing is required in water. Something like life jacket is attached and
the six month old baby is placed in a water tub, it will use its hands and feet
to move about. This aspect is ignored by parents. Of course, the water must be
slightly warm .
I know of a baby of about two years, which used to swim in
the pond at home and reach the other end, without any floating device. When a
wave comes and cover it, we may feel apprehensive. But the small thing goes on, like an experienced swimmer.
Its parents did not care to develop this skill. Swimming and running need no
money to learn. If proper facilities are available at village level, we can
have lakhs of swimmers in Keralam.
