IRON AGE

IRON AGE
According to historians, iron age began in twelfth century BC,  in Mesopotamia and eighth century BC, in Europe.

In nature, iron exists as iron ore, which is an oxide of iron. Common rust is iron oxide. By heating the ore, pure iron can be obtained. In molten form, it is poured into pits where it is solidified as shapeless mass, called pig iron, because it looks like pigs. Iron is easily heated to become malleable, enabling various tools like the chisel to be made. People engaged in this trade are called ironsmith. Guns too, may be made of iron. By mixing iron with small proportion of carbon, steel is made. Steel is necessary for construction of girders etc. The iron age, thus never ends.
