HUMAN BODY AND ITS FUNCTIONING-4

LUNGS
Above the diaphragm , dividing the body is this most important organ for breathing in oxygen and letting out carbon dioxide. It consist of alveoli, resembling grapes . There are two lung s , one on each side. If attacked by germs, the affected part can be removed by surgery. Even if one lung is cut off, man can survive.
Heart is located between the two lungs. It has its own thick, muscular wall , strong enough to withstand the high pressure inside, when the heart contracts, to pump the blood out, through the arteries. Geraff  has the strongest heart, because, its neck is very long. While grazing, it may suddenly lift its head a few metres high , to observe the surroundings .The sudden change in pressure is enormous.
SKIN
Skin is not a part of the body, still, it has important functions to perform. The main duty is protection. Like the bark of a tree, its outer layer is made o dead cells, which form a good coat. The hair, the nails etc. are its parts Inside layers called ‘endodermis’, are live and produce vitamin D in the presence of sunlight. It produces oil and sweat by different tissues. Sweating is the way to cool the body, which becomes hot during work. Elephants do not sweat. They like to remain in water, to keep the body cool. A rare disease is found in which human body does not sweat. They use the showers to keep cool.
The horns of animals are also part of the skin. The long hair protects the head from rain and sun. Sardarjee never cuts the hair ! It is coiled into a bun over the head.
Different colours of people are a mystery. The people of Africa are black, those of Europe are orange white, and those of China are yellow. Their DNAs must be different. Why do we all like to be white?
ELECTRONIC GADGET
Our body produces electricity. Starch is converted into heat in the cells. How heat is turned into electricity is not clearly understood. Just as body heat fluctuates around 98 degree F.  so also, our voltage may be fluctuating continuosly  .  Research is called for, in this field.
