BHAVADASETTAN

BHAVADASETTAN
Veembur Kadalayil Bhavadasan was a born farmer. He did not go to college, probably due to financial crunch, as they had only the income from land. So he joined the Indian Army as a soldier . After police verification, he lost the job, as he had ‘undesirable political activities’ according to the police. Disappointed, he came back and took the spade and began working in his vast house plot, near the rice fields in the west.
We stayed near their home, when I was studying in Pudukad School. His father, a hunch-back, was very witty and jovial. The men folk lived in a small out house near the ‘nalukettu ‘ with good breeze from the west. Ettan used to ridicule his younger brother whose face was not good to look at. This created ill will in the heart of younger brother Krishnettan, who ued to say many things about Ettan.
Bhavadasettan married the eldest daughter of Vaidyan   Thaikattu moose   . They were twins. Radha is her name. The other girl was married to another Namboodiri family . Both died before their husbands. Radhedatthy had cancer of the uterus. She was an angel and expert in making ‘kadumanga’. It was her hobby. People used to book in advance for this delicacy.
Ettan worked with his spade from nine in the morning, till five in the evening. He changed the face of the plot and earned more money than his younger brothers, who were employed and got salary.
Thaikadu Moose, the present incumbent’s father had become very rich and he spent money in demolishing the old ‘nalukettu’ and building modern two storey building. Ettan has three daughters and two sons. The eldest was electrical engineer in a private company in Bombay, before he quit and began his own consultancy. His younger brother became epileptic and this caused a great deal of worry to Radhedathy.
Ettan used to finance my sister’s education in the  high school at Pudukad. He bought our plot, to raise money for my sister’s marriage.
Bhavadesettan passed away, following liver failure. He was in ICU in a Hospital at Kochi . I was away in Rajastan.
