MAOIST ATTACK AT KALAMASSERY
The Maoists attacked the office of the Highway Authority, at
Kalamassery, in broad day light, at eight in the morning. This is the latest,
in a series of such attacks by Maoists. There were warnings of such attacks and
the Police was on full alert. Perhaps, nothing can be done, because, they can
choose a point of which they only know. The alarming fact is that the number of
attacks is on the increase. The whole forest cover, from Vynad to Jharkand, is
under their control. Police can enter this area, in convoys and their movement
is known in advance, as forests are full of agents of Maoists. Arms and
ammunition come freely, through, Nepal, which is a haven for smugglers of
narcotics, arms and ammunition, Pakistani currency, uranium from Jadugudha etc.
Our border with Nepal is porous. The check posts are few and
far apart. The area is full of hills and valleys, covered with thick forests
and favourable to smugglers. Is there a way out?
No. The only solution is, peace talks with Maoists, to
understand the grievances of adivasis, tribal people, who have been driven out of forests, by
agents of multinational companies.
