A SAD DAY
Today is the anniversary (prathishthadivasam) of the
installation of the deity of Sastha temple at Chathakudam. I is celebrated with
enthusiasm by the devotees. Procession on elephant , drum beating , niramala in
the evening etc. are the usual items. All are given free feast, with sweet
pudding.
At about 11, a devotee lost control of his natural urge and
threw his excreta inside the four inner walls of the temple. Hari Warriar had
to remove it.
Then the premises had to be purified by rituals. The
elephant procession was delayed by two hours. When I heard about it, I felt
very sad .
