AUGUST KRANTHY (QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT) On August 8th 1942 , M.K.Gandhi called upon all Indians , to go to jail . ( Do or die : was his slogn ) War was going on against Japan (World War 2) and the British Government could not take any chance. They arrested him. Thousands of Congress workers were arrested This movement was in his own mind only ; he did not consult any one . There are jokes that some people threw the letter box of Post Office into the gutter!
