TODAY IS THE FIRST OF SEPTEMBER

TODAY IS THE FIRST OF SEPTEMBER The first of the month is pay day. ( now we get salary on 31st). We used to be happy . My salary was 120 rupees. Cost of living was low. An average family could live on this amount and save money. Shortly afterwards , the pay scales were revised and this went on every ten years . Now all are looking forward to the next revision in 2016 . Now my pension is above 30,000 . Almost the whole money is spent by the end of the month. This is inflation. Government servants get Dearness Allowance , which is revised every six months. At the end of the year , we get Bonus. What about common people living on agriculture or unorganized labour like construction workers? They are squeezed by inflation . Most of them are in debt . Money lenders are becoming richer and richer. They extract interest @ fifty % per month , not per year. The Government ignores the woes of common people.

PROGRESSIVE THINKER AND RATIONALIST KALBURGI SHOT AND KILLED

PROGRESSIVE THINKER AND RATIONALIST KALBURGI SHOT AND KILLED It is a sad day. Progressive thinker and rationalist Kalburgi was shot and killed by men who came on motor bike. He was a researcher in Kannnada history , he was former Vice Chancellor of Kannada University in Humpy. As he fought against idol worship and superstition , Bajrang Dal , Vishwa Hindu Parishath , Sriram Sena etc. began to campaign against him and police protection was provided , which was later withdrawn as per his wishes. Police investigation is directed against religious bigots.

HORRIBLE-SIX YEAR OLD BOY MAULED TO DEATH IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL

HORRIBLE-SIX YEAR OLD BOY MAULED TO DEATH IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL This is incredible India. Yesterday , a six year old boy was killed by dogs here , right in the National Capital . And what is the response? NGOs are trying to sterilize the dogs. Can we not have a law to permit slaughter of dogs? Throw them as fodder to tigers in the zoos. In Keralam we are suffering . Two dogs have made our terrace their home. Dog bites are common. Vasectomy operation is the only thing the Government is doing. When the number of elephants increase in African countries , culling is resorted to. Are dogs more sacred than Ganeshji?

CATARACT

CATARACT In old age , cataract is a major problem . Now , with the laser surgery , it is very easy and takes only a few hours. There is Gurunanak Eye hospital here , giving free treatment like AIIMS . My wife was operated last year , but I was reluctant to do it , because of some inherent attitude against surgery. At last , I decided to try it and got my sugar level tested . It was too high because I was taking sweet things almost daily during onam festival . So I boycotted all starchy things and began walking for one hour after breakfast. This will automatically reduce sugar level . After some ten days , I may take one more test and get ready for the operation.

GOLDEN QUADRILATERAL

GOLDEN QUADRILATERAL At the time of Atal Behari Vajpai , an ambitious program was conceived , to build a high way connecting Srinagar in Kashmir to Kanyakumari in the South. A similar road is to connect Calcutta to Amritsar. It was termed the Golden Quadrilateral . The PM himself wanted report about its progress and especially any hindrances to its construction. Now the media have forgotten it . To my knowledge , land acquisition is the major problem . Now the law for facilitating this has come into force. I request the Prime Minister to unearth the old file in PMO and make a computer program . Similar files should be maintained by State Governments also . Let us not quarrel ; let us work for the future.

STORY-ROBBERY

ROBBERY My father sent me to the bank , to fetch gold ornaments from the locker and fifty thousand in cash , for my sister’s marriage. It was Monday and there was a long line in que. At last my turn came and I kept all things in my bag and got out. Some miscreant was watching me in the bank itself and he snatched the bag from my hand . I ran desperately to catch him . I got an iron rod , left behind by construction workers , and hit his head hard. Blood was rushing out and he fell down . Before people could understand what was happening , I ran with the bag and knocked at the door of my friend Nalini. I hurriedly described what happened and gave her the bag:”Dear, call my father and give him this bag. Tell him I have taken ten thousand from the bag.” I kissed her good bye and got out of the house. Where shall I go? Bombay? I do not know Hindi. In fact , I have never been out of Keralam and was somewhat afraid of strange places. I grew up as mummy’s boy ; somehow completed my studies in the school . So I called my uncle and explained the circumstances . “Do not worry , boy. Come to me and we shall think of some way.” He lives in a village near Aluva and I decided to go there. When things get cleared , I can come back. Uncle and aunt were very glad. “You have become big and handsome. How are things there? What about your sister’s marriage?” I explained the developments and how I am involved in a murder case. My cousin sister was very much shocked. I said no one had seen me . A local newspaper has given a report without mentioning my name . It seems the fellow is not dead. He is in the ICU , unable to talk. He has seen my face and can easily identify me. “I have an idea. At Mukkam there is no grocery shop. You work in Peter’s shop here and learn the trade. Then we can set up a shop at Mukkam.” The next day I joined the shop. The work is easy . Goods come in a van and we unload it . There will be rush in the evening , at other times it is easy. Peter himself sits at the cash counter. Before the shop is closed at 8.30 PM , I help in tallying the account . In his absence , I am the cashier. I found that most people have a pass book and we have to write the amount in it each time. Even rich people prefer monthly payments . Ladies enjoy talking to me and my own self esteem increased. After one year , I set up my own shop. I used to talk on phone with Nalini “You can come back safely. The police has closed the case . The fellow is all right now , they say. “ “ I have set up my own grocery shop and am making good profit, as it is the only shop here.” “Your father asked me recently whether I am willing to marry you. I think he has spoken to Daddy. Are you not eager to see me? Or are you in love with a girl there?” “Will you be jealous?” “Oh no! It is a man’s privilege. He can pick and choose. We are helpless. “ “Mukkam is a tribal area Women come without blouse . Something like a bath towel covers the breasts You have not shown yours.” “You naughty brute . Can’t you enjoy our face?“ “I am hungry . You must give me soothing to eat.” Thus the days passed . I made good money and was confident of making a living without help . One fine morning , her father came to see my business. He discussed with my uncle. , who talked to my father .When I married , I was thirty five. “Whom should we thank?” I asked. “God”” “Or the person who tried to rob me?” “God appeared in the guise of a robber !”

HAPPY ONAM

THANK GOD ONAM IS OVER During Ona days all shops and offices remain closed I dear Keralam . In small towns and villages , even buses do not run ; the workers observe onam. How do people spend their time? Eating and gambling , I suppose. Even otherwise , young people play cards to win or lose Policemen catch them and release them , after extracting their dues. Ladies may engage in folk dance. According to legend , Mahabali was cursed by Vishnu and sent to the nether world . Every year he was allowed to visit his land . When he comes , we all show him that we are happy!

INDO-PAK WAR OF 1965

INDIA –PAK WAR OF 1965 Narendra Modi is celebrating the victory of the war of 1965 on a grand scale , this being the fiftieth anniversary . Our Prime Minister was Lal Bahadur Shastri , the greatest and most honest PM , WHO , OWNING MORAL RESPONSIBILITY AS Railway Minister , RESIGNED , FOLLOWING Ariyalur tragedy in which two bogies of the train fell into the river. The war was planned and executed with remarkable success by Pakistan. Thousands of Pak soldiers crossed the border in Kashmir and Jammu. Our cities were bombarded by them . We were taken by surprise and had to withdraw . The Generals hit upon the idea of counter attack in Punjab and crossed the border and advanced towards Lahore . The farmers there saw the march of the army and informed the Police. What saved them , was the Ichogil canal , built by their experts for stopping such march. Our Generals failed to take note of it and did not carry necessary equipment to cross it. Pressure mounted on our Government , by the US ,UNO and Russia , to stop war and sign cease fire agreement . Shasthri went to Tashkent in Russia to sign the treaty. He was so much affected morally that he had a heart attack and he died there . The body was brought to India. I wonder what is there to celebrate. A victory worth remembering is the war of 1971 when Pakistan was humiliated and lost Bengal . It was Indira Gandhi who led India and Atal Behari Vajpai called her the avtar of Durga! Shasthri’s soul must have enjoyed the victory . It was he who brought Indira into his cabinet! Do you find any statue of Shastri? The irony is that ex-servicemen are still fighting for ‘one rank one pension’ ; some are on hunger strike till death.

STORY-RUSSIANS

RUSSIANS Railway friendship is purely casual and short lived. When I saw some European ladies , I fust enquired where they are going. When they found someone who spoke English, they smiled enthusiastically. “We are from Russia ; we have heard of India . Occasionally we come here and go back with curiosities like the wooden elephant . Now we are bound for Kochi , “ said the tall lady who seemed to be their leader. They were four young girls ; only one could speak fluent English. We were in Kerala express. They were happy because there is someone who knew the place. We were in Andhra region. After we wished good night , we all went to sleep. Next day I told them:”I am to get down at Trichur ; if you like to see my home , come with me. I stay in the country side .” They all chorused yes and we got down at the station . The break journey was got recorded by the station staff and we came out and hired a taxi. I sat in the front seat and directed the driver to my house. The ladies began speaking loudly, as we were passing the land around Kanimangalam . It was all in Russian but it was their admiration , I guessed. When we reached home , my wife came out . Seeing the women She murmured some curse , but smilingly acknowledged their namasthe with folded hands . I showed them the guest room , where they could keep their luggage and refresh themselves. I then went to the kitchen to help my wife in preparing break fast. “I have heard of such women whom we cannot trust. They may be prostitutes or pick pockets . Who knows? We must inform the police.” “Oh! Dear, do not panic. I can see from their face that these are not such type.” By this time they came to the kitchen and we served them dosa stuffed with a mixture of onions and potatoes cooked together. “Oh Rama , we have never tasted such break fast . Thank you very much.” My wife who can understand some English , was pleased. Then I took them to see my estate . I showed them the big pond. “If you know swimming you can take bath here . Of course , the water is not deep. No outsider comes here. You may go about naked.” They all laughed and I withdrew. After wards I led them to see the upstairs room , which is a big hall .Our house is very old with tiled roof. They saw it with curiosity. When they saw the adjoining room , where huge earthen jars and bronze vessels for cooking food , their wonder knew no bounds. “Why do you need all these?” “When there is a feast, we have to prepare food for all guests. We bake a huge tripod with bricks and put wood pieces in it and fire it. The huge cauldron is placed over it and filled with water and rice.” “You eat rice always?” “People here do not like nothing else. I was in the army and like chapathis made of wheat.” “We would like to participate in a feast.” “My son’s marriage is due in January next; we shall invite you.” “Sure , we will come.” Then we went to Cherpu and bought a wooden elephant, three feet tall , costing forty thousand . She was very pleased. I forget her name , Tanya it is . I noted down the address. I accompanied them to Kochi and after seeing the Marine drive there , they became excited. “You know we live inland . The sea is seen only in TV.” We enjoyed boating . Our journey onwards to the south was by bus via Alleppy where we stayed in a house boat. Then Kanyakumari where three oceans meet. Tanya kept a diary , noting all things and finally returned to my house. When the time came for their departure , Tanya became pensive:”I like to buy land here.” “If you are serious , I shall make enquiries. The plot on our left is for sale.” She promised to inform , after consulting her husband. She paid all expenses and gave me fifty thousand as ‘guide’s fee. I tried to refuse but she insisted:”Without you , they would have cheated us.” Indu also came to the airport to see them off… True to her word , Tina came to attend my son’s marriage. He had worked in Russia for some time and knew their language enough to understand it. He could speak a few words. Tani came with her husband , because he was interested in buying the land . She went about all over the place , accompanied by my son. Seeing them speaking in Russian , the guests were surprised. She wanted to taste the sweet pudding , while in the kitchen outside. The cook obliged her. Then she came to us , where her husband was talking to me in English . We discussed the land deal. When I mentioned the price as fifty lakhs , he thought it cheap. He wanted more land , as many of his friends were eager to settle in Keralam. Tani had written her tour notes and circulated it among friends. In short , I was instrumental in securing land deals in crores and I got a handsome amount as commission. When Tani left this time , we had become thick friends. She whispered in my ears , when none was near us:”You are too cute Raman; I want to do it here and now…”

LIFE IS A WAITING GAME

WE ARE ALWAYS WAITING FOR SOMETHING If our train is late , we cannot leave the station. So there is the waiting room. Same is the case at bus stops too. At the ration shop or the post office , we stand in the line , waiting for our turn AIn Bombay , there will be a very long line for each bus.; there will be a number of such lines . Aome people carry books which they read , to while away the time. Once you are inside the train or bus , you wait for the destination. Once our train was disabled because the driver found that the oil was mixed with water. We all waited till another engine arrived. One can go on narrating such experiences. There is another type of waiting. An expectant mother has to wait for nine long months . The worst type is for waiting for a job. Children wait for examination results , candidates wait for interview call . Poor patients suffering from terminal diseases and culprits sentenced for hanging wait for death, All life is a waiting game

MODI''S WATERLOO

MODI’S WATERLOO Napoleon was invincible . He made all Kings of Europe shiver , by his relentless advance until he was defeated by the British at Waterloo. It was a fluke victory for the Britons , but changed the course of history. Narendra Modi conquered the nations of the world, by his rhetoric and liberal packages of aid to the needy. There is hardly any nation which he has not he visited. A 21 your old lad from his home town Mehsana has given Modi a rude shock, by championing the cause of his caste men ‘Patels’ , Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel was a strong Congress man , whom Modi revered and has constructed a huge statue , taller than the Statue of Liberty in America. He could have never imagined that his Krishn (Krishn killed the powerful Kans in Hindu legend Krishn was a mere boy) will be a Patel . Patel caste in Gujarath depends on agriculture for a living . Farmers in all parts are unhappy because they are at the mercy of merchants. They never get a fair price for their produce. Now unemployment has found young men like Hridic turning to politics. It is unfortunate that the movement has turned violent. Will Modi survive?

GOD IS GREAT

GOD IS GREAT My wife was examined by Doctors in a Hospital , specializing in cancer and the report was received yesterday. It was very encourigind as no traces of the dreaded disease were detected.. In the evening my daughter took her out ad they walked for some time in the colony. She was taking a herb boiled in water , prescribed by a physician near our village . It can be grown anywhere . Its leaves are large . Yesterday itself, Sudha booked tickets for all of us in a train leaving Delhi on 8-12-15. They have to attend a marriage in Keralam. So I will be free at last. One bad news is that the Government has granted four months extension to the pay Commission, to submit their report. Modi is anti-government servants , it seems . He has not still to announce his decision on ‘one man one rank’ for our soldiers. Many ex-service men are still on dharna for this demand. Sixty nine years after Independence , Government has not implemented this. Where do we clerks stand?

PATEL INFLAMES AHMADABAD

HARDIC PATEL SETS GUJARATH ON FIRE , NARENDRA MODI APPEALS FOR CALM A twenty one year old boy, Hardic Patel has set Ahmadabad on fire. Several buildings are burning there. Modi whose pocket borough Gujarath is , is worried. The boy has demanded backward caste status for Patel community , for the purpose of reservation and is touring the State . Wherever he goes , mammoth crowd is cheering him. Now the movement has become violent and Modi is worried. It is something intriguing . How has this demand come up suddenly? Who is instigating the crowd? Is any foreign hand behind it? We are all worried about this.

DEATH GENE

DEATH GENE In human beings there is a death gene which controls the process of death. This is absent in plants. It is believed that fishes too have no such gene. They go on getting fatter and fatter, until some other fish or we humans catch and eat them . In ayurveda , the symptoms of death have been described in detail. In some cases , these appear even six months in advance . Some people forget whether they have eaten food. Some see and talk to their friends who are no more. Well , there are people who remain calm , though they know the end is near. Many people live beyond the expectation of those around them. Scientists have discovered ‘telomeres’ which begin to wear off , triggering the death process , because the chromosomes wear off. I know diabetic patients who eat sweets and are unable to walk , but survive because of strong telomeres. All these make me think that there is a death gene which controls us .

STORY-WIDOW

WIDOW I was married to man working as driver in Dubai. We have two girls , still in school , when the sad news reached that he died in an accident. All the villagers came to offer condolences and we had to wait for two days , for the dead body to be brought here for cremation. I felt numb ad could not cry. I have become a widow at twenty five Through the good offices of the villagers , I was employed as maid in a play school , walkable distance away from home. The play of urchins enlivened my heart and brought money also , thogh not much. Some months passed . One day, Leela , m y child hood friend, came to see me. It was then that the sorrow eating my heart , burst out and I wept on her shoulders… “Come Medini , do not cry. Come with me to Bombay ; I will fix you up in the factory where I am employed . Get ready . Let us go as soon as my leave is over.” We bought some cloths , umbrella and a bag and went by Mangla express. It was my first journey outside Kerala and I was thrilled to see the scenery . In Bombay it was raining heavily and I found it difficult even to walk. The next day I joined as clerk in the stores section of a factory manufacturing tyres .. My salary was two thousand ; my friend and I stayed in the same room.. My boss was a Marathi , quite elderly and well behaved. I wrote a letter to mother-in-law at home. On Sundays , we went to the Mahalakshmi temple . A lot of people visited the temple daily. Leela has many friends and all expressed sympathy for me . They all told me to marry again. I said:”Who will marry a widow with two children?” “You are young and beautiful ; many will offer their hand .” “But now , my priority is to settle my children , “ I retorted. Some two years passed smoothly ; then came the bolt from the blue-my daughter is missing. When the phone came , I applied for leave. My boss booked a seat by the next available flight and I went home much vexed and ready to receive any bad news. It was my second daughter that was missing . They had informed the police. Our neighbours believed that she has run away with the auto driver. I was relieved ; love marriage is no crime . But , at least , she could have chosen a man with better status. I went to the sea shore with Surabhi , my first daughter . “Suru , do you think that I neglected you and did not give enough love?” “Oh no ; we love you Mom. It was my sister who was neglecting her studies and went to see cinema with the driver. I cautioned her , but it was of no use. Most probably , she may be pregnant. “ “After plus two , I shall take you to Bombay . there are good colleges there. “ We sat there until it was dark. The sea consoled me. Soon the lovers came with a marriage certificate and photogra of the couple. We received them gladly and then she went to her husband’s house ; she was only fourteen years old and stopped going to school . Their family was quite well off . I returned to Bombay. Leela consoled me:”Marriages are made in heaven, she is lucky to be in love. I envy her.” My boss too shared the same sentiment. He still look smart and once told me:” Madam , I like you . You know I am already married and divorced. Do not ask me why. Think of my proposal with a cool mind . If you are ready … “ I cut him short:” Nothing till my daughter is settled.” He looked disappointed. Almost at the same time , a man came and talked to me in Leela’s room:”I am your husband’s friend. I had come to your marriage and liked you at that time itself. Leela told me all about you . I am ready to marry you.” “Thank you ; wait till my daughter is settled; at least, till she gets a job” When I brought her to Bombay , I took a separate room and saw Leela rarely. After studies , she too was employed in our factory as a clerk and all went well until… I had taken half a day’s leave due to a headache . When came to the factory , I heard voices of laughter from the Boss’s room. I went near and slightly opened the door. My daughter was sitting in his lap , with her legs on either side of the chair and they were kissing… I quietly withdrew and ran to see Leela . When I emptied my heart , I felt relived. Leela :”I shall write to the man who proposed to you.”

MARKET

STOCK MARKET TUMBLED Today China is the economic super power. Even the United States is indebted to it. When , even China’s economic growth is affected by world slump in growth , we are witnessing this continued down fall in the market. Though the Governor of the Reserve Bank is assuring us of the comfortable position in our foreign trade , it is impossible to believe it all . Continued uncertainty in Greece, is an added worry.

FREE TRADE ZONE IN THE SUBCONTINENT

FREE TRADE ZONE IN THE SUBCONTINENT India has established very good relationship with Bangladesh , not only in establishing trade ties , but also in travel facilities and cultural exchanges. The credit goes to Narendra Modi. Similar approach to Pakistan will go a long way in improving conditions of the people in Pakistan. Just forget Kashmir and terror and all such unpleasant topics. If living conditions improve , many in Pakistan will wish to come to India. Under the military rule , Pakistan remains a feudal State . People have not enough to eat and wear. Our films will be a hit there. They cannot live without betel leaf (pan) So , open negotiations with traders , business men , cultural societies etc. Forget abrasive topics like Kashmir.

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-onam

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-onam Onam is on 28th of this month; but the Kerlites of Mayur Vihar Ph 2 celebrated it at Ganesh Mandir in Ph 2’ In the morning I went to that temple and prayed there. Apart from Ganeshji , there were Subramanian , Shiva and the navagrahangal like sun, guru , shani shukr etc. At noon I went again to partake in the dinner. It was very sumptuous and included two sweet puddings. One fellow came to me and said:”I do read your blog”.

HAIR CUT IN DELHI

HAIR CUT IN DELHI My daughter took me to a ‘men’s beauty parlour ‘, as my hair and beard had grown much beyond tolerable limit. It is only walk able distance from here. The barber cut my hair very short , using the machine and then began shaving the beard. He did it again and again , till I got tired. Then I asked for massaging the scalp. This is something I always enjoyed . In the south , they do not do it. Here he massaged first by the hand and then by the machine. This machine we can use ourselves at home . It relieves tension and induces sleep. When Sudha was in the tenth standard , she used to smear castor oil (available in bottles)in my scalp and rub for fifteen minutes ,when English news was read in the All India Radio at 9 PM every day.

MY SISTER

MY SISTER Savithry , my sister is at the last stage of terminal cancer of the uterus. She is diabetic for the last thirty years at least ; so surgery is risky. Now they are to begin Ayurvedic treatment , as a last resort. She served as teacher at the school near the railway crossing gate at Thirunnavaya. Her marriage was solemnized , when I had just joined Railway Audit service and so could not attend it. This news has disturbed me very much.

STALEMATE IN INDIA-PAKISTAN RELATIONS

STALEMATE IN INDIA-PAKISTAN RELATIONS India is adamant that terror must be the only topic to be discussed between the two counties , whereas they are keen to discuss Kashmir. Third party involvement is resented by us. The result is a dead lock. In my viw there should not be any conditions. Sit across the table and find out ways to resolve the conflict , which kills our soldiers and innocent civilians in Kashmir. Modi wanted the dialogue to continue ; why is conditions imposed by Sushma Swaraj? Another development is the disclosure about Dawood Ibrahim. His mobile number , address , the number of visits he made to the Gulf region etc. have been unearthed. Why do we hesitate in demanding his capture and deportation to India ?

MENTAL HEALTH

MENTAL HEALTH Many people are health conscious. Morning walk , jogging , dieting etc. are practiced by many people; bur few care about mental health. Half of us are mad . Some take medicines others do not. It is doubtful if the medicines have any effect. Like opium , it lulls the brain. When a person becomes violent , he can be put in mental asylum , an euphemism for jail.. There are thieves and murderers too in jails . Are they not insane? Anger blurs the mind . Road rage is temporary insanity. Except contract killers , others are unable to control their mind. Why kill? Does it solve any problem? If he is a bread earner , will it not cause undue misery to the family? How can we improve the mind? Cool the mind , they say; but how? Children too quarrel. . Some parents encourage their children to fight. Engagement in work or studies , keep the mind on track . Idle mind is dangerous. My neighbor is a lunatic. He can be seen sitting in his veranda and counting notes. He asks people for money to by beedi (local cigarette). He never takes bath , wears worn cloths and speaks while walking. I am told that he was put in the asylum by neighbours. Doctors found him well behaved and let him off. ARE NOT LOVERS MAD? Are we all not mad , to make war and kill innocent people by shelling and bombing? Yes , we are all mad.

SUNDERBANS

SUNDERBANS OR SUNDARAVANAM A WORLD HERITAGE SITE, this mangrove forest spreads over 10,000 sq. kilomtres in Bangladesh and East Bengal. . It is the native land of Bengal tiger. Many villagers come here to collect fire wood and some are eaten by tigers. They were a mask with large eyes , on the back of the head. , to scare the tigers. The mangrove diffuses the waves and protects the land during high tides in monsoon. It was a refuge for thieves from the army of Mughal empire . During British time it was developed as national park. It is formed by the delta of four rivers-Brahmaputhra, Ganga , Padma and Meghna. It is worth visiting. Be careful about mosquitoes

STORY-AYYAPPA

STORY Our only daughter had to be taken to our family Doctor for a check up , because she had occasional memory loss . She may suddenly forget what she was doing . Sometimes she could not answer the teacher what was being taught .She was in her tenth class and her teacher called us to explain this. The Doctor examined her and advised consultation with specialists. After a series of tests , scanning etc. they came to the conclusion that it was a rare case of cancer. My wife began to cry. Of course , our daughter was not present when he disclosed this. “Madam , do not think that there is any immediate danger to her life. It is just the beginning . There has been many developments in this field. Be brave .” We decided to withdraw the girl from school. My wife began to coach her at home , as I was too busy in my work in a multinational company. We decided to keep this a secret and began the search for a boy for her. Brother-in-law had many contacts at home in Keralam . (We were in Delhi) My wife went home and soon the mission succeeded . The boy was a bit more aged, but had a big estate and was wealthy. They saw the girl and my daughter too liked him. I took leave for two weeks and the marriage took place without much fanfare. My wife remained there with my daughter as we had no house in Keralam. Exactly after one year I became a grandfather! This was a great relief for us . The new born was named Subhash. He had no defects and all were happy. My daughter continued to take medicines secretly . Now my wife decided to come back. After about seven months , I received this letter. “Dear Papa , My husband asked me what medicine I am taking . When I said it was for my mental health, his father became angry. ‘Why was this fact hidden from us?’, he asked. My husband too began ill treating me . It is intolerable here. Please take me home. Your loving daughter Renu.” So she was brought back. Then came a divorce notice . In the circumstances , we agreed and Renu became a grass widow. My grief was short lived. The boy became a source of joy. Our Doctor said the boy will not be affected by its mother’s illness in any way. My wife became a devotee of Lord Ayyappa . there is a temple in Noida. She used to take Renu and her son there daily . On Sundays I too would accompany them . Many Keralites come there . One young man became very much attached to the mother and son. He was unemployed . I arranged a job for him in my company. My wife said:”This boy is educated and well behaved. Shall we propose alliance with him?” “What is the hurry?” But he himself told us:“We are in love .” “Do you know about her illness?” “It is not her fault. I shall keep her happy . Her life is in Lord’s hands. We thanked Ayyappa ! ‘

RESTING POSE-SOME TIPS

RESTING POSE-SOME TIPS When you are not doing anything , it is desirable to lie down , on hard back cot without pillows. It is more useful to close your eyes because seeing consumes a good amount of energy. This will ensure total inactivity and may even induce sleep. This position is shavasana , a yogic position. Try this immediately on coming home , after a day of tiresome work. Animals have four legs which will ensure even distribution of weight and relieve pressure on lower parts. If you are having headache , it will be helpful. When we stand and work , it will have bad effects like hernia.

TO A POST OFFICE

TO A POST OFFICE I wanted to send a letter by speed post . I was told that there is a post office near Maxwel Hospital. Buses do not go there . At last a cycle rickshawalla agreed to take me there for twenty five rupees. When we reached there , I enquired where the post office is. At an inconsequential corner , I saw a que; well , they are all waiting for their turn. The postmaster , seeing this old man , told me to sit in a chair. When my turn came , I gave him the envelop. It cost rupees 17 only , as the destination was Delhi . Unlike normal dak , the charge increases with distance. From Trichur to Delhi , I used to pay 35. On my return , I came by rickshaw up to the bus stop , paying 15. For the bus , the charge was 5. So the total came to Rs twenty . A gain of five rupees only. The moral I that cycle rickshah is the best suited for small journeys.

TWELVE THOUSAND TEACHERS UNEMLOYED IN KERALAM

TWELVE THOUSAND TEACHERS UNEMLOYED IN KERALAM Keralam is highly educated . There are more teachers appointed by private school Managers. Each teacher gives some fifty lakh rupees as bribe because it is pensionable job. Their new pay scales are very high. Now they are retrenched and did not get salary for six months. The reason may be lack of students who prefer English medium schools. The concerned Department is in a mess. Till now , many have not received text books . There are complaints about mass copying during examinations. Still the concerned minister is adamant and does not quit.

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-‘welcome’

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-‘welcome’ I had gone to the Municipal Office to sell books . The staff there did not know English- ‘give us Hindi books’ , they said. Still I was able to sell some ten books. To return home , I went to the nearest Metro Station which is named WELCOME. There, the passengers told me to go to Kashmiri Gate and then come down to the ‘yellow line’ The station there is a four storeyed bulding . The ground floor is underground where I must board the train. Seeing my confusion a young man held my hand and took me along the escalators . He sat beside me , up to ‘Rajive Chauk’ I thanked him and gave him a book. “You can contact me ; my phone number is given on the back side.” Thus we departed as friends.

WELCOME NEWS-NEDUBASSRI AIR PORT TO PRODUCE 12 MEGAWATT SOLAR POWER

WELCOME NEWS-NEDUBASSRI AIR PORT TO PRODUCE 12 MEGAWATT SOLAR POWER It may the first in India. Our airport at Nedumbasseri is to produce 12 megwatt power entirely by by solar power. This very significant . Solar power is is inexhaustible . Only the initial installation is costly. Many small factories can run on solar power. Street lights can be taken over by SP Homes in remote areas also can be electrified this way , avoiding costly connection by electric wire.. North India receives maximum SP. It is more dependable than wind power. Small boats can run on SP Ooman Chandy ,our CM deserves praise for the initiation of SP. Aryadan Mohammad , the Minster concerned with power, stated that SP has great future in the State.

DELHI ROUTINE

DELHI ROUTINE I am now almost resigned to the life in Delhi. My daughters insist that I must stay here and return to Kerala , only with my wife . At home , they are managing things . As the Onam vacation has begun , Vaikha is not a problem. The printer has not yet completed his work. Leena brought some English story book lying in her house and so I made a trial at Delhi u University. Some ten were sold in one hour . So the idea entered my head that , if I get it printed here , I can gainfully use my time. It would be ideal , if I can publish Hindi version of the book. But, where to find a translator? . I am writing both in English and Malayalam , so the flavor of the story is not lost in translation. These are my thoughts now . One great advantage here is connectivity. At home , the computer always says :you are not connected to the net. Here , in no time, I can open my blog. But , home is sweet. I miss the deeparadhana (arti) at 6’40 in the evening at Sastha temple , only a few minutes away from home .

VIZHINJAM PROJECT

VIZHINJAM PROJECT With great fan fare , a grand project to open a free zone in the Arabian sea , to facilitate port activities , was signed by the Chif Minister of Kerala State and Gautham Adani , a Gujarthi business magnate , was signed on the Kerala New Year day. There is opposition to the project . It will allow free movement of smuggled things . The scheme will be a security risk too , as ships can approach the rail ( bridge) unchecked . The government will have to spend millions of rupees , even as the State is neck deep in debt.

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-metro

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-metro It is the quickest mode of transport here in Delhi. But it is as overcrowded as the suburban trains in Bombay. It has special seats for senior citizens and people are courteous . In Bombay no one cares . DTC buses are crowed only during peak hours . The journey is more comfortable and I prefer it for short trips

STORY-SHOP KEEPER

SHOP KEEPER I was coming on my bicycle , after closing the shop at eight. The whole day the sky was overcast and suddenly rain burst out. To make thing worse , street light went off and I fell into a ditch. Covered in dirty water I began pushing the cycle , guided by the lightning flashes. A lady sitting in the veranda of her house saw me and called out:”Ey fellow , come here and rest till the rain stops.” I complied and she continued:”Lucy, bring some cloth for this man.” The girl in skirt and blouse brought a dhothi . The lady told me to go to the bath room and have a bath. When I returned , a bowl of hot kanji (rice soup) was ready. While finishing it , the lady said:”Are you not the shop keeper of students books and stationery near the school? “ I nodded my head. “Lucy, wash his dress and dry them in the washing machine . “ To me , “Take rest in the sofa . Who are there at home? What is your name ?” “My name is Paramu; I am alone here at Pazhai. My people are at Chalakudi” I reached home at midnight and went to sleep immediately. The next time Lucy came to the shop , she told me her mummy wanted to talk to me. “Are you non-vegetarian? Tell me when you come . “ She gave me her mob number and smiled :”I wish you were a Christian” I went there the next Sunday at noon . I knew they all go to the Church at Pudukad in the morning. The meal was sumptuous with both meat and chicken. Then Mummy said :”When my husband was alive , he had purchased some sixty acres of land at Palapilly , among the hills . He wanted to go and establish there . Now I need a manager there, to develop a rubber estate.. As soon as children’s education is over , we shall shift there . There are no schools there . Can you be our manager? We shall look after the shop here. You are young . When you marry , the shop will not be enough.” I thought and then consulted my people at Chalakudi. They agreed to develop the estate , including rice fields , on partnership basis , 50%. Thus began my new life in the hills. It is a very beautiful area. I contacted the neighbouring estates and obtained loan for purchase and planting of rubber. Rice cultivation was no problem. Labour was cheap. A narrow water channel was dammed with plated coconut leaves and mud supported by arecanut tree trunk split into two. When the first harvest time arrived , I brought Lucy’s family to witness it. I was living in a bamboo tent . It was like a picnic. We went to see the dam under construction. Rice was carried to Pudukad in a bullock cart. We chalked out a plan for building a terrace building , with all modern facilities , including a swimming pool. After her family left , Lucy remained with me . I showed her how wild pig can be killed with a shot gun. We remained silent in the moon lit night , when pigs cam and played or tried to dig in the mud . Then at one shot , I killed one . All the rest ran away. She was happy to make a dish with it . During this period we became close friends. She would sleep with me without sex. She used to kiss me , but did not go beyond that. She was happy to see the rubber trees becoming mature and latex being extracted , by cutting a part of the skin of the tree. She was interested in Hindu mythology , never once went to the Church at Varantharapilly. She was ready to become a Hindu but I was not willing for conversion into her faith. Her two sisters were married in due course . To her Ma , she said one pretext or other to avoid marriage. I think her Ma was willing for our marriage , but never mentioned it. Now she has become a big girl . I knew this could not be postponed :”Honey , we can register our marriage which is lawful. . In the register her name was entered as Bhavana.

HOW DO ELECTRONS GO UP?

HOW DO ELECTRONS GO UP? Electrons have definite mass and are therefore subject to gravitational pull. Place a bowl of water and pour water through a small hole , so that an artificial water fall is created . Place a live electric wire dipped in the water of the bowl. You will notice that the entire water fall is electrified.. In other words electrons travel up against gravity. What is the reason?

TODAY IS OUR NEW YEAR

TODAY IS OUR NEW YTODAY IS OUR NEW YEAR For Keralites , today is our new year.It is the first day of the month of Chingam in the year 1191 Ours is a calendar ,calculated with reference to the position of stars and there is no leap year. Number of days in a month may vary from 30 to 32. Aryabhattan used to lie on the sandy bank of the river Bharathapuzha at Thirunnavaya for a number of years until he charted the course of the Sun all the year round and made the calculations with the help of calculus , using only small conch shells called ‘cowry’ Every first of the month , I used to go to Guruvayoor temple in Kerala. Today I shall go to Utharaguruvayooor at Mayur Vihar-Ph one in Delhi. This temple is a replica of our Guruvayoor and the twelve day festival begins shortly. On the last day , there will be elephants , drum beating etc.

STORY-ADOPTED SISTER

STORY-ADOPTED SISTER Posted on August 17, 2015 by waterfriend | Edit ADOPTED SISTER Normally people adopt a son . This system is as old as Mahabharath. You may wonder why I adopted a sister. The fact is we are two brothers and I yearned for a sister. A sister’s love is unselfish. She expects nothing from the brother. I asked my mother:”Ma, why did you not give me a sister?” She heaved a sigh! “Doctors had to remove my uterus…” I embraced her and consoled her . That was when I was a boy. After my studies in bio environment , I was posted at Karwar, a port town on the bank of te Arabian sea. I was staying in a lodge and used to go for a morning walk .I was surprised to see a number of men jogging in the high way. One day , a car sped by me and stuck the parapet in the bridge over river Kali. The impact was so great that half of the car broke the wall and stood precariously. I went and told the inmates:”Do not move; I shall call the fire engine.” The man in the front seat withdrew his head. From the rear seat, a woman and her children, began wailing. Meanwhile the fire engine came and lifted the car, which had to be repaired . The man called for a mechanic . It seems he is familiar here . I offered them lift .:”For the time being, come and stay in my lodge. Where is your native place?” “Idigunji.” “I have heard about it . ‘”Offer prayers at the Ganesh temple and you get whatever you want.” In the lodge we exchanged details about our back ground . They are business people . Export and import is done , of raw granite blocks to Japan and import of polished granite for building works. As they left, they thanked me once more and promised to meet again .The lady’s face was imprinted in my heart. I shall tie the coloured thread on her hand on Rakshabandhan day , I told myself One Sunday, we made a trip to see Jog falls As my lady’s husband could not come , his driver was at the wheels. The two children occupied the window seats and we both sat arm in arm . It was a strange sensation, as if a radiation was passing from my heart to hers. Is it love ? On the way, we had breakfast at Kamath Hotel. There are a chain of such eating joints . Food is superb . Children asked for ice cream. I preferred milk pudding. Water bottles were stocked and the driver sped at high speed as the road was good. We passed a number of rivers . At some point I stopped the car and we came out to see the scenery. At Jog falls, the slope is so steep that we had to lie down and move like snails. We held the children tightly. But the joy of watching the torrential falls, is something worth the trouble. We travelled along dry rock and reached the opposite bank . From the top, there are steps to the bottom. Here we can stand between the rocky back ground and the falling sheet of water. We all took bath in the pool of water formed at the bottom. Lady:”Have you not seen it before?” “No. I had heard about it. It is a wonderful day . Being close to your body fills me with erotic sensation. Do you share this heavenly feeling?” She took my hand and pressed it against her full breasts. Inside my underwear, there was a fullness. “Dear, should we not celebrate it?” She kissed me hard. While climbing the steps , she held on to my shoulders . At the top, we drank tender coconut trees. That night we hired rooms in a hotel. I slept with the driver. At midnight , when the children were fast asleep , she knocked at my door. She intoned me to follow her silently. She locked the room from inside and removed my cloths and saw me from top to bottom. Soon she became nude and pulled me into her bed… At five in the morning , she released me! From there, we went to Idigunji Ganesh temple . She told the poojari to offer special prayers for us .She gave ample ‘dakshina’ We had food in the temple, where it is offered free. When we reached home her husband offered me :” I have been thinking of appointing a Manager to assist me . Would you be ready?” The lady seconded it and I became General Manager of the business. Almost daily she would make a visit to the office, where we spent some time in privacy. News of my mother’s illness came . Immediately I got ready. “You take me also . I have not been to Ujjain” We went by train. There we saw my mother in a critical condition:”I may not live long. I want to see you married.” We first went to Mahakaleswar. Seeing the grand old temple , she was very much impressed . Then we saw Kali temple where the great poet became Kalidas. The Shani temple on the bank of the river was not omitted. We discussed mother’s wish. The possibility of arranging a mock wedding was also discussed, to satisfy Ma. “I think it is a good idea ,”she said. “By conducting the ceremony in a temple , we satisfy the Gods too.” “We will be free from the charge of adultery. More than one husband is allowed in the ‘puranas’ “ So that solemn ceremony was conducted and Ma became happy.

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE –ambedkar university

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE –ambedkar university I went there to project my case for a possible honorary Doctorate in science. At the entrance the watchman will not allow me in , without knowing the purpose of my visit. As he does not know English, it was no use explaining . I showed him my book , containing my new theories in science. He phoned the receptionist and allowed me in. There I was told that science is not taught in the university . They suggested Indira Gandhi Technical University. I came out and hired a cycle rickshaw He took Rs. Thirty and brought me to the opposite gate of the same campus! There I had to walk some distance , in fact half way from the opposite end and I visted the receptionist. Even without seeing me , I was told to clear out!

BRITISH RULE IN INDIA

BRITISH RULE IN INDIA Portuguese and the French established their empire in parts of India by armed might . The British , who came late , presented gifts to the Mughal Emperor and got permission to build ware houses at Surat. At that time there was complete lawlessness in North India . The large army had almost disappeared and the soldiers made a living by looting the merchants . The presence of British army was a relif to the merchants . Modern arms with the British helped them in maintaining law and order. In due course , their empire covered the whole subcontinent . British Collectors were appointed in all districts , who were honest and were not influenced by local men. Schools , postal and telegraph net work , survey of the whole land etc were their achievements . From a conglomeration of feudal Kings , India became a modern State , with the largest voluntary volunteer army , supervised by British Officers . It was this army that fought the Japanese in World War 2. Indians were trained in administration. The result is that when power was transferred to us on 15-8-1947, India was a modern state. The same day Japan formally surrendered to the Americans

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-travel

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-travel When I wanted to book a rail ticket for Trichur , it was found that all seats are full for four months . It was a big shock. How can a low income fellow like me go home ? I came here in Delhi because my daughter had booked ticket by air. Now I am practically stranded here. This may be the cause of my dream last night , that I was at an unknown place and had no money to come back. If it is a small distance bus travel is most convenient.

PM TO VISIT THE GULF COUNTRIES

A WORD OF PRAISE FOR MODI Our Prime Minister is visiting the gulf countries. He will discuss with our people about their problems and ways to improve travel facilities. It is encouraging that he will see workers’ colony . This is the first time a Prime Minister sees living conditions of workers. I appreciate this!

STORY-MOTHER

STORY I am an eligible bachelor. The normal practice is for the girl’s parents to contact me for fixing marriage. So far none took interest , though I am eager to marry. We are half a dozen men and our eldest a female , who is married to a farmer. Men folk are reluctant to get married I do not know why. I am an engineer in the Taluk Office and earn extra money too . Some of the ladies working there are interested in my case, but back out , when they visit our joint family. They would have thought of the burden on the house wife of such a big family . One day some gentlemen in pants came to visit us. They asked for my details , as it was a working day. So they promised to come on Sunday . So I am excited , as it is Sunday. After seeing the house and our rice fields they asked me poit blank:” Our girl is not interested in staying in this family . If you agree to shift to the town , we can consider. Our eldest, Bhasker, did not say anything . and they went back , giving me their phone number. I was disappointed. I was in my office. One of the men who had come to see us approached me and requested me to come out. He took me to a restaurant , where a young lady was also waiting . She seemed very young , slender and plain, rather dark coloured. We sat round a table and he ordered coffee. “I know you will not like to discuss it , when your brothers are present. I am her father . Her name is Priya . She graduated in science and now she is working as teacher in a school , here itself. “ “I do not mind staying in the family. I had seen you in the office and liked you ,” she said. I remained mum . The girl is all right , though I am much senior in years. I promised to inform them and exchanged mobile numbers . At home I discussed with all , including my sister . They were shown the photo. My sister was very enthusiastic. “Nice girl; she does not appear to be haughty.” So it was decided and I conveyed to Priya. She began to come to my office daily . All knew about our affair. I deliberately delayed marriage for six months “ I have a chit fund which will mature by then; I want to mke it a big thing , inviting all my friends.” “I have no patience. I want sex.” So we sought secluded places , after sun set . I found her to be very hot and innovative . Somehow the waiting period was over and we were married. For honey moon , we chose Kodaikanal. It was summer vacation. So Priya was free. I had enough leave at my credit . After enjoying the stay at Kodaikanal , we returned home . She enjoyed the stay at my home , more than the honey moon. She liked to cook food and see agricultural activities , because she had never seen it . During this period , she informed me that I am going to be a father. Seeing our success, my brothers also began to get married . Within one year our home became a big family . People praised Priya as the torch bearer. All jubilation came to an end , when she was admitted for delivery. The Doctor said he cannot save both. With great reluctance , I allowed the baby to be sacrificed . I told the Doctor , not to inform the mother. When it was over Priya cried aloud . I told her we must consult Ayurvedic Physicians about improving her system . She was given herbal tonics and yoga exercises. We went and prayed at all temples. We decided to abstain from sex. After one year , we decided to have one more trial. She became pregnant almost immediately. This time the Doctor was able to save a girl child and its mother…

STATE BANK OF INDIA

STATE BANK OF INDIA I have noticed this: while in other banks , staff have less work , in the SBI THERE IS ALWAYS SUCH A LONG QUE that staff are kept busy even in lunch time . The reason may be Prime Minister’s idea of allowing to open accounts without depositing a single pie. The Manager is busy opening new accounts all day long. At Lakshminager , I found a system , like the ATM , where the customer himself can update his pass book. book. As I was not knowing it , I wasted two hours , waiting in the que. (waiting with the token)

FEROCIOUS DOGS

In the TV channel , I watched a group of dogs attacking and overpowering a deer. These were not wild dogs. Even in the villages dogs attack physically week women. A debate is going on whether we should not kill them , is not human being more dear to us? The Government has ordered vasectomy of dogs , when we do not have enough trained veterinary surgeons

TODAY IS INDEPENDENCE DAY

15TH AUGUST IS OUR INDEPENDENE DAY Today we must all be in a jubilant mood . But most of us are unhappy. The President, in his speech last evening , expressed his displeasure over te way the proceedings of the Parliament was blocked by the unrelenting attitude of the two dominant parties , the BJP and the Congress. Ex-service men have been conducting a squatting demonstration at the Jantar Mandir , near the Parliament , demanding ‘one rank one pension’ Yesterday they were manhandled and driven out by the police. Is this the way , we should treat our men who fought for our country? Why could the Government not agree to their demand ? Extra money should not be an excuse. General public are angry at the rising cost of living. Even yesterday the Pakistani forces attacked our army at the border and Prime Minister chooses to ignore this ? Why? Individually , my family is worried about my wife’s illness. She is much better now. She can manage her affairs ; only my daughter or myself help her when she takes bath. She will do the cleaning with the soap , we pour water over her body. I want that we should go back , but my daughters like to serve her , at least for six months. Jai Hind!

KERALA STATE IS NECK DEEP IN DEBT

Kerala State is planning to borrow 24000 crore rupees The Finance Minister is a worried man. With this ,total debt will be 159 lakh crores . From whom can we borrow? How can we present our case convincingly? To manage this , we are going to find out a Consultant . an International tender is floated for this purpose. The main spending is for a number of ambitious Projects. The Consultant has to convince the financiers about the feasibility of these Projects and our ability to repay the money. These are new ways to borrow. No one is thinking of curtailing wasteful expenditure.

REGISTRAR OF NEWSPAPERS , DELHI

REGISTRAR OF NEWSPAPERS , DELHI Registration of my magazine CHITHAPRAVAHAM is still pending in the Office of the Registrar at RK Puram. In the morning I went there to find out why it is still unsettled . In front of Sudha’s house is a bus stop. I went from there in DTC bus Air Conditioned and fully controllwd by the driver , the like of which can be seen plying from Aluva to Kochi. I got down at Krishi Bhavan and got into the Metro Station adjacent to the road. There I walked quite some distance to reach the ticket (round token in which details are printed electronically) The journey to AIIMS station took only 15 minutes . Fromthere I went by auto-ricksha. I met the concerned person in the office. There were only minor lapses in the ‘Declaration, which can be attended to. One funny requirement is that the first copy of the magazine must be sent along with the application for registration. It was past twelve and my woes began. There was no tea shop where I can get something to eat. I had to be satisfied with tea . To the nearest auto stand , I walked for half an hour. At the metro station , there was a long que. When my turn came , the counter closed, to tally the cash. I got out at Rajeev Chauk and walked and walked and still there was no sign of Barakhampa Road , where I could get a bus for home. I slipped and fell . Some one pulled me up and took me to the auto rickshaw. I told him to take my too the World Trade Centre , where Sudha’s office is located. I called her Sudha held my hand and walked to the office , where I washed and had my meal at at 3 PM . Sudha took me home in her office car.

PARLIAMENT PARALYZED BY THE BJP AND THE CONGRESS

PARLIAMENT PARALYZED BY THE BJP AND THE CONGRESS The Parliamentary session is over , without transacting any business. Both the BJP and the Congress have been responsible for this . The Speaker’ adamant attitude in refusing to revoke suspension of MPs is also a reason. As Prime Minister , Modi is answerable to the nation. He decided that Sushma Swaraj is more valuable than the Nation . Her resignation could have saved the situation. The Congress too could have helped. Their ‘tit for tat’ attitude is meaningless. Now we can hope that better behavior will be shown by them in the winter session.

STORY-GARDEN

GARDEN Delhi is full of gardens. It is said to be the city with the maximum forest cover. I belong to a remote village in Keralam and came here, at the invitation of my friend , who is employed in the Central Secretariat. I was curious about this city with the historic forts and monuments . As my friend lives in Lodhi colony , I used to frequent the garden here. After walking along long , meandering paved paths , I sat on a bench , immersed in my own thoughts . I did not notice the feminine presence , so near to me on the same bench. At last I saw a young lady and was about to go , when She said:”Do not go gentleman , have I disturbed you?” “Who are you? Can I be of any service to you?” “You speak chaste English. I was attracted by the kind ad serene look in your eyes. Shall we be friends?” I did not know what to say. She must be nearing thirty. Her complexion is white and she is tall . To say something I asked :”Are you married?” “No; I am Leela. I live with my uncle. In Noida.” “You are quite attractive . why did you not marry till now?” “I am afraid. Many of my friends have regretted after marriage. I do not like to experiment. “Oh! I am Akash. I have appeared for Assistats Grade Examination. I live with my friend . I shall go back , if I do not get selection. “For getting a job , there is no place better than Delhi. I think you are bored . I shall expect you tomorrow here. Give me your address and mob:no.” I wrote it in her diary . :“Please sign.” As I signed it she kissed me lightly in my cheek and went away. The whole day I was thinking about her. When my friend came , he said:”You seem to be pleased . I did not say anything about my encounter with the lady. The net day I waited impatiently . She came a bit late. She was beaming with joy and embraced me tightly. She opened her lips. I kissed her . Soon she led me to a shady place where no one can see us. I felt nervous . She sensed my hesitation and assured me. “Here it is normal. Couple come here for this purpose only. I do not know how long she slept in my arms. When she woke up, she asked:”Did you enjoy it?” This went on for some days. When results came , I was selected and appointed as Assistant in the Sectretariat. I was forced to tell my friend about Leela. He cautioned me :”There are many ladies who like to have a niee time. Ask her whether she will marry you.” I mentioned it. “Let me come to Kerala and see your parents.” “As I have just joined service , I cannot take leave.” “Then you can shift to my house” So the days passed. During holidays we used to go sight seeing around the Capital. She used to drive and taught me driving. Unexpectedly she became pregnant. I thought she must be using precautions . She was unperturbed “Now you have proved your manliness”. But I took leave and we went home. All the way she was happy as child. She wanted to go by train and avoided the plane. At home all were surprised to see the lady with me . I said she is my friend. We travelled in the county side in a taxi cab and went up to Kanyakumari. On our return from the tour , I mentioned to my parents that we want their blessings for marriage. Mother was not happy , but gave in. We were married at Guruvayoor temple , without any fanfare and got registration certificates there itself. We received ten lakh as dowry subsequently. A ROOM IN THE SKY Wth this money , we gave contract for the construction of a new building in place of the old tiled roof structure. So we remained some days there for supervising the work. Our house is on the bank of the river. Leela had an idea. So we built strong pillars and a room , projecting towards the river. This was to be our bed room. As she was pregnant she told me she would remain in the village. So I left her there. On receipt of intimation , I flew in . The boy is very cute but my wife would not allow breast feeding , lest her balls may lose shape. I did not have the will to deny it. The baby was always in the hands of Narasu , a dirty brat with running nose , who used to play with me . Now she has become mature with budding breasts . She used to look at me longingly. During this period my wife learned to make sambar , vada etc. Leaving the baby to the care of my mother , we returned to Delhi. Leena gave birth to two more children , a boy and a girl.. Then she left me . It was virus fever. I could not recover from the shock. When I became normal , mother told me to marry again. “Whom?” “The girl who brought up all your children.” I Told Sarasu:”I know it is cruel ; will you marry me?” She smiled shyly

CROWD MANAGEMENT –P0LICE SHOULD BE GIVEN TRAINING

CROWD MANAGEMENT –P0LICE SHOULD BE GIVEN TRAINING Stampede in temple festivals has become a serial story. The festival at Deoghar in Jharkand , iwhich thirteen people lost life , is the latest. A crowd is like flood waters. Special training is required for controlling the people. Incoming people must have separate entrance. There must be announcements to direct the crowd. Is there any Police Academy where this training I imparted?

HIGH UP IN THE AIR-MUSINGS

HIGH UP IN THE AIR-MUSINGS When we were flying high in the air , my mid wandered over the horizon of life and death. Is it worth worrying , about mundane matters? Even cities were not visible . The small people are like insects , busying about food and living. The same feeling of unreality grips me when I am on top of a hill.. The first thing I do in the morning , is to open my computer. Is the blog important? For that matter , is the newspaper worth the money we spend on it? I envy the real saints , who need no saffron cloths. They wisely abstain from marriage. Why did Christian God make Man? He could have left Adam alone. Why did he create Eve? The couple has managed to over populate the world. Like the ants , they do not live in peace. They fight for something or other. Sex and money are the two forces motivating forces, impelling us to go forward. Among Hindus , there is Pushpangadan who is always aiming his arrow of flowers against young men and women. When the arrow strikes , the poor victims run about seeking copulation. What a world!

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-gulab jamun

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-gulab jamun Last night we had dinner in a hotel as it was Leena’s birth day. After finishing food , the waiter offered sweets. There were gulab jamuns and ice creams. We ordered for both. All were surprised to see a very big gulb jamun , the size of a very big apple , quite hot. Children took its photo , before cutting it like cake. I liked the hot thing!

STORY-MANGO TREE

STORY I was about four years when I got a mango. It was so sweet that I went on licking it , till I got tired. I then made a small pit in the earth in our front court yard and placed it inside. Then I filled it with soil and poured water daily . I was glad when the first shoots came outside. I told papa and he advised me to make a small dam around it and fill with water. In due course it began to give fruits as sweet as the one I tasted.. Whoever saw it admired my efforts . I soon forgot it when I joined the college and then a school in Delhi as clerk. My father was about to retire and he wanted me to marry . It was then that I presented myself to a boy who had come to see me , along with his parents and relatives. I recognized the boy as soon as I saw him. He lived in my village and was popular because he sang well . He was very senior to me in school.. After the formal meeting I took him to the mango tree and explained the circumstances in which it became my tree. “I love it as my first child! My regret is that we will have to vacate this house when father retires. It is Government quarter.” “I shall tell a way out. One of the mango fruits from this plant can be planted in our house , whenever we have our own dwelling.” Thus began our togetherness ; the tree is our child. Father came and asked:”What are you doing here?” “We are discussing our future plans,” I said. We went inside and watched the conversation . I was just listening and dreaming. When they rose to leave , I felt desolate. He told in my ears:”It is a matter of days only. Next month we are marrying.” I hurriedly kissed him. For the time being , after marriage we stayed in his quarter in Delhi. Whenever we came home , we used to go and see our tree. I told the new hous owner that he should not cut the tree which is ‘our child’. For long years I remained barren ; he was not concerned but I began to despair. My womb is unable to nurture a baby. “Why do you bother? I find it convenient ; less luggage…” I consulted a Doctor. He advised me to go for a surrogate mother. “The very process of bearing the baby for nine months , is bound to develop a bond which cannot be easily forgotten. So the baby must grow in my womb,” I told te Doctor. So back to square one. I was getting old . One day a bearded old man in saffron cloths came for alms. His noble face attracted me. I gave him food and some money. He was pleased:”Ask for some boon, Amma,” he said in Malayalam. “How did you know I am a Malayalee?” ‘I stayed in the Himalayas for seventy years. I know you are eager to have a baby.” He gave me a ‘vibhoothy’ (ashes) and told me to take it with milk. In six months I became pregnant. All were surprised . We named the baby ‘Himamshu’. Then we heard of the tragedy: in an unprecedented storm , which raged the whole night , our child the mango tree fell down…

MY FIRST DAY IN DELHI

MY FIRST DAY IN DELHI My earlier life in Delhi was regulated by daily visit to Guruvayoor temple . In those days , I used to walk all the way from Ph two to Ph. One , where the temple is located. Vow I am pretty old and have to depend on ricksahaw . Now , I am told that they charge Rs. Fifty . I almost abandoned the idea and chose to go to the Ganesh temple at Ph two where Damodarah has to go for my soybean and other items needed for the kitchen. Leena’s children Ananya and Anaushka also came in the car. Leena had gone out in the morning for some purchases . When contacted , she said she is too reach in a few minutes by Metro. The latter is in Ph. one , near Guruvayoor temple . So I told them we all can visit the temple. The girls were in shorts , which is not allowed. So they were given dhoti at the temple office , which was worn over the shorts. This was returned , when we finished and came out. This is a good system they have discovered , as many girls are now wearing shorts. Children wanted packets of appam , so these too we bought . In the temple I gave ticket for arhana and received Prasad. We also picked several pieces of coconut near Ganeshji . In our return , we came to Ph two and bought milk , oil etc. The smell of fried samosa invited attention and we bought many. It was so hot that I cannot hold it . I enjoyed it . At home , the new flat TV of enormous size is a big attraction. It was purchased by my grandson Nikhil recently. It is something beyond the reach of us middle class people.

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-hundred rupee note

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE-hundred rupee note Many of us are in the habit of keeping ready in hand , the money required for our bus ticket. The boy sitting in front of me had one hundred rupee not in his hand , waiting for the bus conductor. Suddenly it flew away from his hand and fell on the road . The fellow immediately asked the conductor to stop the bus and ran back till he collected the note . The conductor obliged him by waiting for him. I wondered what I would have done , had I been in his place. I think I would just cursed my fate and taken out another note!

IMPORT OF BEEF FROM TAMILNADU AFFECTED

IMPORT OF BEEF FROM TAMILNADU AFFECTED Some animal activists in Tamilnadu found out that cattle are being transported to Keralam under ‘inhuman’ conditions. They are so packed in trucks , that they are even unable to move . No one cares to give them water. Now the Tamilnadu Government has cracked the whip and the arrival of cattle to Keralam has stopped. Here even Hindus are beef eaters and prices have gone up. Similar objections have caused vegetables movement too , in this case , pesticides are the villain. Onam (an eating festival)is very near and people will have to give more. Andhra rice is often stopped by traders in that state. People of Keralam are not so rich as they were , because of visa restrictions by Gulf countries. Has God forgotten his own country?

DON-DAVOOD IBRAHIM

DREADED DON DAVOOD IBRAHIM IS PLANNING ATTCK ON INDIA A US intelligence agency has warned that IS is planning attack on India. In an interview with a journalist in Kashmir , it is said that Davood I brahim is planning attack in many places , including Bombay , similar to the one , following demolition of Babrimasjid in Dec 1963. The Union Government has held a meeting of State Inspector Generals of Police to consider ways to counter the threat. But , considering the porous nature of our border , it is next to impossible, to be free from the threat. The coast line is practically unguarded. At least, the whole border must be handed over to the Army. Permanent solution must be an invasion of Pakistan, with a view to dismantle that country.

IIT-PALAKAD

IIT-PALAKAD Third August , 2015 is a land mark for Keralam. Indian Institute of Technology , Palakad has started functioning this day. For the time being , the class rooms are in the open air. HEALTH-BEWARE OF BACTERIA IN RAINY SEASON

HEALTH-BEWARE OF BACTERIA IN RAINY SEASON During this season , bacteria multiply quickly and spread in the soil , water and air. All sorts of diseases trouble us , making this the worst in the year , except for Doctors (!) In Keralam ,we boil the water with a piece of dry ginger, Chucku in Malayalam, which kill germs and make the water safe. This is called ‘chuckuvellam’ (literally ginger water) . I have found from experience that, if you add a small quantity of ‘yavam’, it will help in clearing the throat of mucous mucus . This medicinal property of ‘yavam’ was advised by my uncle , who was admitted in Jubilee Mission Hospital , Trichur . Doctors were drawing mucous accumulation in the chest by syringe. They were surprised when they found great improvement. They did not know that he was drinking only yavam water. YAVAM (Malayalam) grows among wheat and is known as Jo in Hindi .

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE—money changing machine

SNAPS FROM MY LIFE—money changing machine At the Olarikara branch of the Federal bank , I saw two girls inserting a ten rupee note into the slot of what looked like an ATM machine. On enqiry , they explained that ten one rupee coins will be given back. I heard the sound of coins falling in the bowl placed below. After that , I too tried and got the coins. This was the first time I saw this gadget.
