Pollution can be of two types.
One is harmless, as far as mother earth is concerned, like dust, smoke etc.These will settle down in due course, or get absorbed in the system.
The other type, like chemicals, plastics,cement, glass, mercury, electronic waste etc., are irreversible and may never get absorbed in nature. This a serious menace and must be tackled on a war footing.
When we went to Pali Marwar, near Jodhpur in Rajasthan, I was apalled by the chemical pollution caused by the cloths dyeing industry there, on which the whole town survives, being a cottage industry! There is a dry river in the town, virtually a place for dumping all chemical waste. Whenever it rains, it will be carried away far and wide. Any body may take a sample of the soil, anywhere in the town or its surroundings, analyse it and confirm my observation.
