MY LIFE – APPLIED FOR DEPUTATION TO RAPP

On my return from Bhavanagar, I was posted in the Waggon repair shop audit at Kota. Bajpai, whom they wanted to get rid of, was my assistant. He was ready to do anything for me except audit work, he told me.

At that time, my friend Parihar was working on deputation to the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project on the bank of the Chambal river , being constructed by Canada, on turnkey basis, entirely financed by them, with agreement for training our staff in maintenance of the plant. A number of our engineers were already in Canada undergoig training, M.S.R.Sarma and M.R. Sreenivasan among them. The Canadians used to call them Sam and Cheeny. A township was constructed, exclusively for the Canadians, with a shool for their children and a library, which came handy to me afterwards.
One day Parihar took me there, and I fell headlong in love with the landscape! I started dreaming about this GIRL. Of course, I applied for a deputation to this project. It was like marrying a wealthy woman. I would get 20 % deputation allowance and another 20 % project allowance, plus free electricity and temporary accommodation, project school with CBSE syllubus and free transport in project buses! Too good to be true, I thought.
God was kind. I came to know that they had approved my transfer; formal orders may take time.
