TRAFFIC PROBLEMS AND RATIONAL TOWN PLANNING

City traffic is of two types : one, regular commuting by workers and students, the other casual drive by individuals or groups for different purposes. I think the former is the cause of traffic jams. In an ideal, rationally planned city, the residentce of workers must be near the work place. The schools should also be located there. In the chaotic city, which has grown up without any planning, and the schools admitting students at their sweet will, avoidable transport of students become inevitable. Now it is time for us to have a rethinking on both these aspects.Pressure of builders must be avoided. This is not easy. All schools must be run in a coordinated manner, in admitting students, those near the school, getting preference. If the neighbour concept is accepted, all can travel on bicycles. Recently in Keralam, it was a pleasant surprise to see a large number of cycles parked in a school, because buses were not available in that area!
