CHINA UNDER FEUDAL RULE
For a long time, China remained a feudal country.
The writer, Pearl S. Buck, who stayed there for a long time,
along with her father, who was a priest, has written several novels about those
times. Men used to shave their scalp, leaving a pig tail at the top. When a man
became old, his wife chose a girl, to be his wife. Young boys were allowed to
mingle with girls of the lower caste, who were deputed as maids. Rich landlords
used to have their own garden, with artificial ponds, rivers and bridges etc.
The Capital City, Peking was walled and outsiders, not
belonging to the Royal family, were not allowed to go inside. It was known as
the ‘Forbidden City.
It was Sun Yat-son, who brought about a revolution and threw
open the City of Peking to all people. after becoming the first President of
the Republic of China in 1912.
To protect the Chinese from attacks by Mangoles, a huge
wall, cutting across the whole land was built. It can be seen from the
satellite.
All spoke the same language, which has no alphabet.
