MY LIFE, JOINS RAPP

BARODA

While I was waiting for Orders regarding my deputation to RAPP, I was posted in Divisional Audit Office, Baroda, as a stop gap arrangement. My successor had been relieved from Andaman, and so we went there with minimum utensils. It was more like a vacation trip for sight seeing, than a posting to a new place. My bungalow was just two minutes’ walk from the office and even for tea, I was coming home! It was really ideal, but the deputation to RAPP was a must, for financial security.
The museum, the children’s train, a wide avenue, with big trees on either side, the palace etc. still linger in my mind; otherwise, everything has been obliterated by time.
In the children’s train, both Sudha and Sudhir, aged ten and seven, were seated and ,when the train started running faster, Sudhir panicked and started crying!
When orders of deputation came, we went back to Kota, where both Nag and K.M. were waiting at the station. My wife said she would stay at Nag’s home. Nag’s family had already left for their village at Narora (where there is an atomic power station now) in Uttar Pradesh. Recently we stayed in the NAPP colony near the sacred Ganga river, where we went to take bath daily, enjoying the scenic beauty and the grandchildren watching with curiosity, the tailor bird’s nest. They also caught a tortoise, which was later released. On the way to the river, is the Samskrutam University, where the professors go about in dhoti, without shirt, and a number of peacocks make a cacophony, unpleasant to the ear.
