MY ANCESTORS

VISHNU APPAN
After the partition of the tharavad, when the karanavar Kunchunnyappan became old, he handed over power to Vishnu appan, though there were elders like Narayana appan (appan means paternal uncle), because Vishnu was educated and shrewd. He did not marry for a long time.
I once saw him, along with his friends, studying some paper, probably
Advertisement. Appan asked me:”What is rigid?” I said:”That which cannot be bent.” They all laughed. At that time I did not know why they laughed. Now I know the reason: appan had some problem about his penis- the medicine advertised, was for making it rigid!

He constructed a pump at the spot belonging to Vasu appan, at kottikal, where there was olenty of water even in summer and began supplying water to farmers. Lift irrigation was unknown at that time. He will be remembered for that. He died prematurely, owing to some problem of the lungs, in a hospital at Calicut. Yesterday, his wife Arya passed away
