INDIA IS NOT A NATION

If you remove Russia, Europe is smaller than India of the pre-partition period. Nations like Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark are as small as a district in India. The whole area south of the Himalayas is a subcontinent. No one coud estabish an empire engulfing both the North and the South. Even the empire of Shivaji broke into pieces afterwards.

A foreign power forced us to remain together, uniting us in our fight for freedom. As soon as we got it, division became inevitable. Today what we see is the tendency towards disintegration: demand for division of UP into five parts, Konkan region,Gurkhaland, Nagaland, Telengana, Vidarbha etc.
The failure of parties like the CPM, BJP and BSP to spread all over India, is again a symptom of the fact that we are not a nation. Regionalism is an expression of this fact.
There is no going back to the original India of the pre-British raj. At the same time, we must recognise the writing on the wall. There is need for smaller states (Keral State must be divided into Malabar, Kochi and Thiruvithangore) . The states should have full autonomy. Governor must be elected. THE CONCURRENT LIST IN THE CONSTITUTION, allowing both the Centre and the States,to legislate on the same subject should go.
Only Currency, Foreign Affairs and Defence must be retained by the Union Government.
