I was studying in the sixth standard. A t about eleven my
teacher asked me to get out of the class.”Unless you pay the fees, you cannot
enter the class; don’t you know this is the last day?”
I came out, with tears in my eyes. My friend Lucy also came
out. She is a beautiful girl who always remained with me when we play in the
school. ”What is the matter, dear? Did you forget to bring money?”
“There is no money. The last ten rupee note was spent in
buying kerosene from the ration shop.”
“What is your brother doing? I know your father is no more.”
“He is in the college; our uncle is sponsoring his studies.”
Lucy searched her
bag, I forgot the purse . Don’t bother, I will bring the money, come with me.”
We went to the bakery shop. She told the owner of the
shop:”Give me hundred rupees; I forgot my purses at home.”
While returning to the school, she embraced me and said:” I
have plenty of money with me. I shall pay your fees always. You coach me in
arithmetic. So it is give and take. You are such a nice boy, “
From that day, it became my routine. She would take me on
her scooty and I used to stay in her house for one hour. I got plenty of things
to eat, including ice cream, which I like very much.
By the time we passed, tenth, our friendship turned into
real love. “He is a Hindu boy. Do not forget that. If you something else in
your mind, forget it. You can marry only a Christian boy.” This is what her
father told her, she told me. “I will marry you only.” To seal our love, she
kissed me again and again.
One day, she came to
meet my mother. I told her Lucy is a Hindu girl:”She is giving me money for
fees. I like to marry her. Will you bless us?” She bowed and touched her feet.
Mother said:”It is alright. You have chosen a good girl.” That was the
beginning of sexual contact, our secret honey moon!
I was seventeen and plus two classes were added to our
school. She told me: ”Your moustache is coming; I like men with body hair. “
When I joined the college, our link was broken. Before going
her father gave me tuition fees @ Rs.
One thousand each month. He said:”You are a brilliant student. I shall
sponsor your higher studies. Inform Lucy and I shall send the money.”
I got admission in Calicut. For higher studies in medicine,
I had to go London. This was aided by a
philanthropic institution based in that city, where my friend in the college
had contacts. I continued my stay in London, by joining a Government Hospital.
When I returned to India,
my mother who now lived in a newly built house, had become very
weak. She asked:”Has that girl been
married?”
“Yes mother.”
I went there. Luc y has become fat. She began to cr. I was
at a loss about what to say. By that time, her father also came. I touched his
feet. ”Sir, but for you, I would have been
school teacher or clerk. Where is
Lucy’s husband?” “He has left her. Now
she is thinking of becoming a nun or something like that. His brother also came
to see who has come. With him came a half witted girl, limping slightly.
Otherwise, she is comely.
I called her,” Come baby.” I examined her. “Let me have a
piece of paper.”
I asked her to write her name. She wrote “margarette”. The
letters were slanting to one side and then in the next direction. Her head was
somewhat soft at certain points. After some time I asked ”Is there scanning
facility anywhere here?”
They were not certain. I told Lucy:” We shall take her to
Chandigarh. There I am confident of finding remedy, if necessary by a simple
neurosurgery, which is my specialty. ” They asked me to stay there.
She called me to her room:” He is a drunkard. I told my
father that I want divorce. The proceedings are going on in the family court.
Now my father has changed. One day he told me;” Daughter, I did a mistake, by
refusing marriage with that Hindu boy.” She began to cry. I embraced her and
kissed her in the mouth, till my thing stood up, ready to fight. Forgetting
where we are, we did it.
Next day we all including both the brothers, left for
Chandigarh. The surgery was successful and we returned after a month, fully
satisfied.
I married Lucy. We went to London, along with my mother.
