A nation of a thousand million people should not have any dearth of talent. In sports or music, in arts or in science, we must have thousands of gifted people vying for the first hundred position! Selectors must find it difficult to reject any one candidate.
How is it that we do not get gold in Olympics or Nobel prize winners in science? The department of atomic energy is unable to enrich uranium in India. We have to import all sophisticated equipment from outside. What is lacking in us?
There may be many reasons. Undoubtedly, the major cause is reservation. The next one is nepotism
When a certain percentage is reserved, you are doing so, to ensure denial of opportunity for people with merit.Do we need doctors of good quality or just doctors with less talent but having caste certificate? The students from urban areas manage to secure coveted seats, while the rural poor look dejected, not because they are less talented.
Nepotism is too well known to be described, the major cause of frustration for the meritorious candidates.
IAS examinations can be written in Hindi. For a vast segment of people from the north, Hindi is their mother tongue. They have an unfair advantage over the rest of the population. They breed unchecked while in the south, especially in Keralam, population is decreasing, resulting in retrenchment of teachers. We lack the will to enforce small family norms.
Talent must be spotted in rural areas. In urban centres, they will come up, by their own efforts. All those selected on the basis of merit, must receive proper training at government expense, liberally supported by voluntary donations.
All concerned, must sit up and think of the ways for improving matters.
