BROTHER
My brother did not like to stay in his house, with his wife.
He remained in our ancestral home at Kadalassery for several years. The temple
at Melottukara was common property of the family and pooja was conducted by a
member of the house. There is no remuneration. Brother volunteered for the
work, mainly to escape from home, I think.
He used to sleep in the same room, occupied by Kunchnni
Appan, when he was ‘Karanavar’. The mid servant used to clean the room. One
day, brother asked:”Do you like me?”. After that, the maid refused to go there. That
may be the reason ; he shifted to K.K.Raman’s house at Pidikaparambu. Raman and
Indira, his wife, entertained all and never said or did anything to wound the
feelings of the guest, no matter who it was. If in doubt where to stay, in the
absence of my wife, I go there. I feel totally at home. This is a commendable
quality of this couple.
Taking advantage of this nobility of the host, brother
remained there for years. On the day of
‘irakipooja’, when ‘appam’ is offered to the God, Raman will give brother any
number of the sweet appams to brother. Brother will never say no and Raman may
give twenty balls of appam !
Brother was busy writing. He will never show it to Raman.
When his son grew up, he forcibly brought his father home. At home, he had a
room, where no one was allowed entry. After his death, the room was opened.
It was found that he was writing romantic poems in his note
book ! There was some twenty thousand rupees in his cash chest. He never gave a
single rupee to his wife or son.
At one stage, he became mentally ill and had to be treated
at Elite Hospital . His son too is taking medicines for mental disease.
