MANUSMRITHY
The sage Manu prescribed the code of conduct for women.
In childhood , the girl is to be escorted by the father, the woman is protected by the husband and in old age the son is the guardian. At no stage, a woman deserves freedom.
This is for their safety; if it is observed, rape cases can be averted.
