LADIES' BEACH

LADIES’S BEACH IN KARWAR Karwar lies near Goa, in the Konkan region of Karnataka state. It is a port and is a good tourist destination with a few beaches and islands, but the Government has not cared to develop it. We were curious to see the ladies’s beach, of which few people knew the way. After some enquiries, we were directed to climb a hill and look for it. Even though Karwar is coastal town, there are several mountains, some of these entering the sea! There was only a wild path which we managed to find. On the way, up the hill we were surprised to see a bamboo pole with a fork at one end, used for plucking mangoes, hanging from the tree. There were mangoes but we were interested in reaching the beach, which could be seen, soon enough, down a steep side of the hill, facing the sea. When we reached there, it was totally deserted. The reason was obvious. It is cut off on all sides by the mountain range! Probably that is why it is called Ladies’s beach , as they have absolute privacy there. As we had carried eatables, we spent a good time, swimming and enjoying the loneliness!
