SUPREME COURT

UNDEMOCRATIC DECISION OF THE SUPREME COURT Freedom of expression is guaranteed by our Constitution. Recent judgment of the Supreme Court , diluting this right , in respect of popular icons , is most undemocratic and has been condemned by writers and intellectuals. Even bhagvan Ram has been castigated, by critics for his unjust act in abandoning his wife, who was pregnant, in the forest, without caring for her life even. But, according to the judgment , even Gandhi cannot be denigrated , because he is an icon! A cartoon may hurt the sentiments of some people; so it is to be banned. Rani Laksmibai of Jhansi was a fast friend of the British raj. She fell out with the rulers, only because she was not allowed to adopt a prince. If I doubt her patriotism, I will not be spared. This amounts to censorship. Galileo was imprisoned for saying that the earth is a globe. Socrates was sentenced to death, for advising his disciples not to accept anything without questioning. Hinduism tolerated even those, who insisted that there is no God. What happened to the Judge of the Supreme Court? There should be wide debate on this judgment.
