INTERLINKIG OF RIVERS IS WASTE OF MONEY

At the time of Prime Minister Vajpai, Suresh Prabhu was appointed to oversee the preparation of a project study about Ganga -Kavery link canal. I had met him at that time.in his office.
The concept was mooted by a great engineer, K.L.Rao, if I am not mistaken. On paper it may look attractive. Closer scrutiny will reveal the lacunae. In Delhi itself, a link canal was constructed at the time of British rule, connecting Hindaun river with Yamuna. I had explored its present state, during my aimless walks. It is a static canal, without movement of water, a stinking canal and good breeding ground for mosquitos.
A number of bridges had to be made, when roads came up in an area, deserted, when the canal was built.
If the G -K canal is now built, it will be ideal for villagers for dumping waste and for relieving pressure!
Canals were made in China and Europe, for navigation purpose, before rail networks were constructed.
Armchair projects will give employment to Officers and staff. Ground reality and practical sense are needed.
Cost? God save us from such waste of money..
