CANADA AND THE US

CANADA AND THE USA- A COMPARISON Almost the whole of the North American continent is occupied by the United States of America and the Republic of Canada. Both the countries are inhabited by English speaking people. Yet, they offer a striking contrast, even in the spellings of the words they speak! Canada was always loyal to the Crown and remained in the Commonwealth. The people of America fought a protracted war against England and wrested freedom. They hated the English so much that they decided to draft their own Constitution. (In India the whole system was retained, without bothering about the historical background and the multilingual character of the people) In their fight for liberation, the Americans were supported by the French, both materially and morally. Thinkers and writers like Jefferson were inspired by the French revolution. Most tragically, the Americans abandoned their love of freedom and introduced slavery, because it offered money!(“Eliza the Slave Girl” is a gripping story of how the slaves crossed over to Canada and won freedom.) They killed or drove away all native Red Indians. In contrast, the Canadian Government gave them space for settlement; and the Parliament of native people is something, about which, most people are not even aware of. Initially, the USA kept away from the eternal war going on in the old world, but later on, motivated by the greed of arms manufacturers, they intervened every where from Korea, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq and Kosovo etc. Canada wisely stayed away from atom bomb mania (even foolish India entered the fray), when the USA embarked upon the most destructive race for a nuclear holocaust! Canada respects environment and tries to protect it; Americans even demolished mountains to extract oil. Historians may find the reasons for this divergence in out look and behaviour, between the same people who migrated to the new world. Is it because, with official patronage, law abiding citizens approached the new world in Canada; whereas, all sorts of ruffians went in search of livelihood to the thirteen colonies which became the USA?
