PANGOD: SUICIDE CENTRE I was watching the Surya TV channel. I was shocked to learn that the village PANGOD, near the capital, witnessed 500 cases of suicide, mostly by hanging or poisoning, in just the last six years. The villagers who did this, were comparatively well off, yet frustrated because they had ambitions beyond their capabilities. This is something really scaring, even though Keralam is notoriously in the front line, in suicide mania. Is alcoholism in any way connected to this tendency? Sociologists must ponder this question.
